Anton’s Dried Mission Figs 227g
$8.39Dried mission figs are a bit smaller and sweeter than the Calimyrna variety. Also known as Black mission figs, they have a deep purple skin that appears black when dried, and a slight pinkish hue on the inside. The name “mission figs” comes from the Franciscan missionaries who planted them throughout California in the late 18th century. Mission figs are an excellent source of fiber, potassium, and other minerals.
A single serving of these delicious fruits provides 20 percent of the average person’s daily value for dietary fiber. As a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, mission figs offer many health benefits. The soluble fiber content helps lower LDL “bad” cholesterol levels and regulate blood sugar, while insoluble fiber keeps the digestive tract running smoothly. Fiber also slows the digestion of carbohydrates in the body, supporting the absorption of other key nutrients.
Chock-full of minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron, mission figs are a healthy treat all around. Potassium aids heart function by helping the heart beat normally, and regulates high blood pressure by keeping sodium levels in check. As a good source of calcium, mission figs provide a nutrient that promotes strong bones and teeth. Calcium needs to be obtained daily since our bodies do not produce it naturally. Mission figs are also high in iron, which helps the body form hemoglobin so that cells have enough oxygen to function.
A serving of mission figs is one of the healthiest ways to satisfy a sweet craving. We love enjoying this delicious dried fruit on its own, as well as adding it to some of our favorite recipes. The next time you’re entertaining guests, we recommend serving dried mission figs with other dried fruits, nuts, and cheese for an enticing appetizer platter. Try chopping a few figs and tossing them over salads and pastas. They’ll add a pleasant flavor and texture to your dishes. Mission figs are also delicious in baked treats such as breads, muffins, and scones.

Anton’s Crystalised Ginger 227g
$7.49Crystallized ginger (sometimes known as candy ginger) is ideal for a spicy snack, a unique cup of tea, or an ingredient in your cooking.
Crystallized ginger is made of gingerroot that has been cooked until softened, and then lightly coated in sugar. Our candied ginger is pungent with a spicy-sweet flavor and is moist and chewy. It is embraced as a natural remedy for reducing hot flashes – huge numbers of women swear by it. Crystallized ginger helps alleviate indigestion and colds…and don’t forget to take it with you on boat trips for sea sickness! (Some of us here know from experience that candied ginger is an absolutely essential part of your travel kit…)
Interestingly, ginger itself is as old as the recorded history of man. A native to southern Asia and India, it is spoken of in the Jewish Talmud, written about by Marco Polo, and even recommended by Henry VIII as a remedy against the plague.
