The Bounty chocolate bar, manufactured by Mars, Incorporated, was introduced in 1951 in the United Kingdom and Canada. It features a coconut filling enrobed in milk chocolate (blue wrapper) or dark chocolate (red wrapper), typically sold as two small bars in one package. The concept was inspired by the Mounds bar, introduced by Peter Paul in 1936 in the United States, though Bounty is not domestically sold in the U.S., only available via imports. Early advertisements positioned it as a taste of tropical paradise, with 1970s TV ads featuring slogans like “The Bounty hunters — They came in search of paradise” and imagery of tropical beaches. The bar’s introduction coincided with a postwar optimism and a longing for exotic travel, as noted by Guardian journalist Emma Hughes. Limited-edition flavors, such as cherry in Australia (since 2006), mango in Europe (2004-05) and Russia/Ukraine (2010), and pineapple in Russia (2014), have also been released.
